The Rewards of Working With a Transformational Retail Design Agency #ProjectUpgrade

retail design agency project upgrade

On Thursday 19thth September, the retail design team at H Squared travelled down to London for a special event in collaboration with Phones 4u. As we have previously worked with Phones 4u, they knew that the creativity and expertise we bring to a project meant that we were the right retail design agency for this project. Our creative retail design team worked in collaboration with the PR and Marketing team at the flagship Oxford Street store, to prepare for the special one day event to celebrate the release of the Apple iPhone 5c and 5s.

Our retail design team worked non-stop through the night to transform the store from a familiar mobile phone store into an exclusive iPhone boutique. We created a luxurious VIP experience zone and a relaxed atmosphere for a truly special shopping experience.  By opening time, the store was unrecognisable, complete with refreshments and a place for customers to put their feet up and take a break from a busy day of shopping.

The event was part of #ProjectUpgrade, Phones 4u’s £1 million campaign to capitalise on 4G and get the message out there that you can upgrade your mobile phone with a retailer – not just your network provider. #ProjectUpgrade is all about upgrading your life, not just your phone. Members of the public were able to submit suggestions as to how Phones4U can help them, with problems ranging from interview stress and grubby student accommodation to long, boring commutes and even bent knitting needles! A few lucky winners were then picked and upgraded with special prizes to make their day that little bit brighter.

The campaign kicked off with two 40 second television commercials featuring Phones4u employees upgrading customer’s relationships, and has expanded into a nationwide campaign. Social media has been a big part of the campaign with a dedicated team tracking the hashtag across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and reading all of the upgrade suggestions. So far, people’s lives have been upgraded with everything from coffee and clothes to mp3 players and, of course, mobile phones. All the upgrades Phones4U make are added to the upgrade map on the #ProjectUpgrade Facebook page. The team have already made hundreds of upgrades (including upgrading Adam & Eve DDB, the campaign developers, with a breakfast feast!) and the campaign is not expected to finish until the end of the year.

Una Foden, Vanessa White and Rochelle Humes of girl bands The Saturdays made a special appearance in store to check out the new iPhone 5s and 5c and upgraded some lucky customers with some exclusive goodies including iPad minis! The phones are the first to come pre-installed with iOS7, the latest Apple update and come in a range of previously unavailable colour options. The 5s is the cheaper of the two phones, and features a plastic case, something that Apple had been rumoured to be developing for a while. The 5c is available in choice of five eye-catching colours including bright pink and lime green, and the 5s in space grey, silver and champagne gold.  New features on the 5s include 64-bit mobile architecture, a fingerprint identity sensor and a dual LED flash.

As a retail design agency, the event was a huge success and a great day was had by all of our team. After an exhausting but fun filled day, we transformed the store back to its original retail design in preparation for business as usual the next day. We look forward to working with Phones 4u in future and expect to see #ProjectUpgrade continue to be a success.
