Retail Design for Fiat 500 – A Recent History

retail design

The Fiat 500 - an old classic revamped into a sleek city car back in 2007. It’s one of the most iconic cars on the road today, recognised for its compact size and smooth shape. But aside from their automotive expertise Fiat also know a thing or two about retail design. And here at H Squared we are all about retail design.

An old classic is reborn…

The 500 has taken on a fresh new look in recent years with many of the store displays showing a more playful side to the motor trade.  A pop up shop in Milan last year saw the 500 transformed into a style icon with the store looking more like a high end fashion store than a vehicle showroom. Limited edition art printed cars complimented this display, looking somewhat reminiscent of a clothing-adorned mannequin in a boutique window. Much classier than a typical showroom!

Fiat 500L Retail Design

This year, the 500 went large with the release of the 500L, a bigger model than the previous 500. The December pre-release displays showcased the car as part of a winter wonderland themed display. A more childlike approach was taken for the release of the car this year. Supersized Lego pieces and colouring crayons were set against the blank canvas of a white car and giant coloured letters proclaimed ‘Go large!’. This display certainly makes us want to revisit our childhood.

It seems that no longer is all the fun limited to the high street. Perhaps this is the start of other car companies taking an experimental approach to their window designs. With so many great displays under their belt already, we can’t wait to see what’s next from Fiat.
