Retail Design Experience Awarded to Young Open Winners

Work experience at our retail design agency.

As proud sponsors of the East Midlands Young Open, retail design agency H Squared were pleased to invite three talented young people into their studio for a week of hands-on work experience. Samuel Shelton, Lauren Stewart and Ellesia Burton were each awarded the opportunity to work with the team on exciting projects for some of the world’s biggest retailers.

The young creatives were given the chance to see what it’s really like working at the agency and covered all parts of the retail design process from the initial idea through to the finished product.

What did they do?

  • Read design briefs.
  • Researched new designs.
  • Created and hand-sketched new ideas.
  • Worked on realistic projects using H Squared products.
  • Learnt how to use Google Sketch-Up to develop ideas in 3D.
  • Learnt how to work quickly and develop ideas.
  • Learnt about rapid response design.
  • Completed 3-4 projects during the week.

We understand the importance of work-based hands-on experience when attempting to break into a creative industry so we made sure our young people were given the opportunity to learn about and work on real H Squared projects. We even made interruptions to the projects to make the experience more genuine!

The team at H Squared were really impressed with the innovative ideas and the level of hard work the winners put in during their work experience. Each of them had different talents to contribute, from creative ability to technical skills, and together brought a fresh new outlook to the studio. We wish them all the best for the future in whatever they decide to do with their talents.
